To broaden the user experience, Spotify is looking to include more visual content, starting with video podcasts.

Pairing up with YouTubers Zane Hijazi and Heath Hussar of Zane and Heath: Unfiltered, the music streaming platform is testing the capability of video podcasts on its desktop and mobile apps, by uploading the creators’ content on the app. The podcast’s three most recent episodes featuring the videos will be available to 50% of the Spotify podcast’s listeners to test, it’s only they’ll find out which episode is playing after they press the play button. Locked screen won’t stop the podcast from running, and ads for free Spotify accounts will appear as a non-moving shot.

Speaking to The Verge, a Spotify company member stated: At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those tests end up paving the way for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We don’t have any further news to share at this time.”
